Laburpena / Resumen:
Giancarlo Franzese leads a research group on Statistical Physics of Complex Matter at the University of Barcelona (UB). He got his PhD in Physics with honors at the University of Naples (1998) and was Associate Researcher at the University of Roma Tre, the Boston University, the Second University of Naples, and the Center for Statistical Mechanics and Complexity of “La Sapienza” University of Rome, before moving to Barcelona in 2003.

At UB he is coordinator of the Condensed Matter line of the PhD in Physics, Professor of the Master of Advanced Physics and in the Master of Atomistic and Multiscale Computational Modeling in Physics, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Professor of Physics and Professor of Biomed- ical Engineering. He supervised 8 Master theses and 15 PhD theses at UB, at Boston University and UFRGS. He is PI in international projects, with cumulative funds for more than 2Me. He organized 23 international conferences and chaired 15, on subject including Physical Biology and Molecular Biophysics. He is editor of three and referee for 64 international journals —including Nature, PNAS, PlosOne, PRL—and for 19 international grant agencies.

His research focuses on hydrated nanoscopic and biological systems and complex matter. He uses theoretical calculations and numerical simulations, often collaborating with experimental groups. He made 100 peer-reviewed publications, including book chapters, and gave more than 120 Invited Talks.
