The International Liver Congress organised by the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) held its annual conference from 11 to 15 April last in Paris, which brought together scientific and medical experts from around the world to find out about and share the latest research on liver diseases.

There was an emphasis this year on the commitment of the hepatology community to eliminate viral hepatitis, as well as in the main scientific advances in liver transplantation, autoimmune diseases and metabolic and rare diseases.

A series of awards in support of young hepatologists were awarded on the second day (14th) by EASL. With a special recognition for their outstanding achievements in the research of liver disease, Dr. Jesús Bañales, a researcher from Ikerbasque and Group Head of Liver Diseases at IIS Biodonostia and Pierre-Emmanuel Rautou, Professor from the Department of Hepatology at Beaujon Hospital and Paris Diderot University, were awarded the EASL Young Investigator Awards 2018 by the EASL Governing Body and the Young Researchers Concerted Action Group.
