The Medical Innovation Technology Platform (ITEMAS), promoted by the Carlos III Health Institute, aims to foment, detect and channel innovation as a fundamental tool to make the National Healthcare System more sustainable. It is made up of over one thousand professionals, spread out between 31 innovation nodes, with the participation of 67 hospitals and health centres and 99 non-medical institutions. AENOR is part of ITEMAS, and has already certified five of its Innovation Support Units in accordance with R+D+i Management System Standard UNE 166002.

The path ITEMAS travelled to certify its nodes was led by the centres with the most experience at that time, which are Fundación Parc Taulí – I3PT, University Hospital of Cruces, IiS Gregorio Marañón, IIS Biodonostia, IIS INCLIVA La Fe and IVIMA.
